The Grove at Grand Bay’s 21-story dual twisting towers are eccentrically angled and shaped to optimize views of Biscayne Bay. With incredibly complicated gravity-defying concrete work, each tower has rounded exposed perimeter columns that slant in two planes, but the tilts are different from floor to floor, column line to column line, and building to building. Floor plates are rotated 3′ relative to the floor below until to the upper five floors, where columns are vertical, but each tower has a different footprint. The most challenging aspect of this project was making sure the column slopes (ranging from 10 to 38 degrees) were perfect. Form adjustments had to made even if a slope was off by only 1 degree. With tremendous effort and close management, the team was able to build both towers concurrently.
